At 20 years old, the Kitchener, Ontario native becomes the 36th player in franchise history to graduate from the Toronto FC Academy to the first team. His strong performance during preseason under new head coach Robin Fraser earned him a spot on the senior squad.

"We are thrilled to announce Markus' signing as a homegrown player with the first team after coming through our academy over the past 10 years," said Jason Hernandez, Toronto FC’s general manager. "He has proven himself in both our academy and TFC II systems, and we look forward to his continued growth with the first team."

Cimermancic, a 6’1” (1.85 m), 183-pound (83 kg) midfielder, has spent the past three seasons with Toronto FC II in MLS NEXT Pro, recording six goals and eight assists in 59 matches (48 starts).

His soccer journey began with Kitchener Spirit, where he played for seven years before joining the Toronto FC Academy in 2015. His steady development led to four short-term contracts with the first team, where he was named to the matchday squad for four games during the 2024 MLS season.

He made his Toronto FC II debut as an academy player in May 2022 and signed his first professional contract with the reserve team in March 2023. Now, with his official promotion to the first team, Cimermancic aims to establish himself as a key piece in the Reds’ midfield.

With his youth, talent, and experience in the club’s development system, Markus Cimermancic stands out as one of Toronto FC’s most promising prospects for the future.
